We’re proud to announce the successful completion of a rural connectivity project in Limpopo, where we deployed 80 WiFi hotspots across several underserved communities.
Each hotspot was strategically placed in areas with high foot traffic, and built on a 9-metre pole powered by solar panels mounted on custom brackets. The infrastructure included a Ruckus access point to deliver fast, stable WiFi that locals could access using their smartphones. A weatherproof control box housed the required network gear and a LiFePO₄ battery to ensure continued uptime during power interruptions.

These hotspots connected to seven high sites using point-to-point (PtP) radios, which in turn were linked together via 80GHz Siklu PtP radios. One of the high sites connects directly back to Teraco via a dedicated 1Gbps fibre uplink, ensuring high-speed backhaul to the internet.
In addition to public access points, we also provided WiFi To The Home (WTTH) services for families needing reliable connectivity at home — particularly valuable for school learners in areas where mobile LTE coverage remains poor.
This rollout has been a fantastic success and a meaningful step toward closing the digital divide in South Africa’s rural communities.
